Early Life and First Works (1821–1849)
Born in Moscow in 1821, Fyodor Dostoevsky abandoned engineering to pursue writing. His debut novel, Poor Folk (1846), brought acclaim for its portrayal of poverty in St. Petersburg. Involved in socialist circles, he was arrested in 1849 for political activism. This period introduced his focus on social issues and psychological depth.
Exile and Transformation (1850–1864)
Sentenced to death in 1849, Dostoyevsky was pardoned and sent to a Siberian labor camp, followed by military service. These experiences deepened his faith and shifted his writing to themes of suffering and redemption.
Literary Mastery and Legacy (1865–1881)
Despite personal struggles, Dostoyevsky’s final decades were his most prolific. He explored morality, faith, and the human condition, creating timeless works that cemented his legacy as one of literature’s greatest voices.
